Sized to the room, not the catalogue.
A heat pump that is too small runs flat out and still leaves the room cold; one that is too big short-cycles, costs more to run, and never quite deals to the damp. Getting the size right is the whole job, and it starts with a tape measure — not a phone quote. Mitch visits, measures room volume, and weighs up insulation, window area, sun path, and how the household actually lives in the space before naming a capacity.
We supply and install named-brand systems only: Mitsubishi, Daikin, and Fujitsu. These are the brands with parts on the shelf in Christchurch and technicians who know them inside out, which matters on a frosty July morning when something needs attention. Single wall-splits suit bedrooms and home offices; larger lounges and open-plan living often call for higher-capacity wall-splits or multi-room combinations, and we will say honestly which one your floor plan needs.
Installation day is where tidy shows. The indoor head unit goes up level with the lines run plumb and clipped, the outdoor unit sits on a solid, level footing with clear airflow all round and the condensate drain properly dealt with — no puddles against the cladding, no winter ice sheets on the path. Pipework is kept as short and neat as the house allows, wall penetrations are sealed against draughts and moisture, and every fixing is torqued and checked. When the system fires up, we test it under load in both heating and cooling, walk you through the remote and the timer functions, and leave the site cleaner than we found it.
Existing homes and new builds both suit us. In existing homes we work around finished walls and ceilings with minimal disruption; on new builds we coordinate with your builder so the pre-pipe, wiring, and unit positions land exactly where the plans say they should. And because we are electricians too, the dedicated circuit, isolator, and switchboard capacity for the new unit are sorted by the same team in the same visit wherever possible — one phone call, both trades.
Canterbury frosts are the real test of any heat pump. We set defrost behaviour and placement with cold mornings in mind — shelter from the worst of the southerly, clearance for airflow, and drainage that will not freeze across the footing. Ring Mitch on 027 629 0052 or email mitch@hikoheating.co.nz with your suburb, the rooms you want warm, and roughly how old the house is, and we will tell you straight what it needs.
Room volume, insulation, glass and sun checked in person before we size anything.

Circuit, isolator and switchboard capacity sorted by the same team.
The other two trades.
Heating rarely travels alone — the switchboard and the airflow usually want attention too.
